Prairie Stars Quilters Guild celebrates a rich history, having just celebrated our 25th year. We were incorporated as a not-for-profit educational corporation in the summer of 1980 by a small but dedicated group of quilters. We have grown to over 200 members and offer both daytime and evening chapters so that everyone interested can join us in our mutual love of the art of quilting.
Prairie Star Quilters Guild provides its membership lectures and workshops by leading quilt artists from around the country, and the world. We offer creative nurturing, encouragement and inspiration, so that our members may rise to the level they so desire, be they beginners or accomplished quilters.
Our guild logo has recently been updated to represent the core values of our group-Fellowship, Education, Inspiration and Service. It is embellished with the Prairie Queen quilt block, our original logo.
Several of our members’ quilted works have been published in national magazines and have won prizes at various shows all over the country. Some members own quilt shops in the area, some go on the lecture circuit, and others conduct classes and workshops.
Every other year, PSQG presents a quilt show to exhibit members’ work and makes a raffle quilt. In addition to displaying quilts and wearable art, the Guild sponsors demonstrations, a miniature quilt auction, merchant’s mall, and a boutique. Funds raised from these quilt shows are used to promote the educational aims and activities of the Guild, including but not limited to, the preservation of fiber arts in local communities.
As a charitable organization, the Guild participates in various philanthropic projects by providing quilts and other sewn items, as well as monetary donations, to community organizations, both locally and abroad. In the past year or so, we made over 60 quilts for the Lifeline of Hope and contributed funds for the purchase of sewing machines in Zambia for sewing classes for young girls. We also donate to Lazarus House and make preemie outfits for a local hospital. Now we are turning our attention and our sewing machines to make quilts to comfort victims of Hurricane Katrina.
PSQG holds its regular monthly chapter meetings at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles. The church is located at 1145 N. 5th Ave., about 1/2 mile north of Route 64
(see map).
The evening chapter meets on the 4th Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. and the daytime chapter meets the Tuesday after the 4th Monday at 9:30 a.m.
